Why keep cockroaches?

Madagascar hissing roaches (G. portentosa) can make wonderful and interesting pets as well as healthy feeders for insectivores. They are easy to house and feed and are fun to observe as they interact with each other. Like their name suggests they are capable of making a hissing noise by pushing air out of their bodies. They can grow pretty large, reaching 2-3 inches once mature. They are not aggressive towards people and can be quite docile and easy to handle.
